I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering Technology at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). My research interests lie at the intersection of robotics, artificial intelligence, control, sensing, and biomedical engineering, with a particular focus on surgical robotics. My current research includes learning-based robot calibration and control, sensorless force estimation and haptic interaction, surgical perception, and intelligent robotic systems, with extensive work on the Raven-II surgical robot.
I received my Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and my M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington, where I worked with Blake Hannaford in the UW BioRobotics Lab. I also collaborate with Per Reinhall and Ryan Jense on a startup initiative involving biomedical sensing and healthcare technologies.
